主语的选择和转换在汉译英中极为重要，因为在许多情况下汉语原句中主语的安排不能与译文的主语完全対应，这时，就需要在原句中挑选其他词语作主语，并根据英语的表达习惯在句式上进行调整。例如：
①德囯相机的主要特点是工艺精湛，经久耐用。
The German cameras are chieflv characterized by their fine workmanship and durability.(定语作主语）
②动量的定义是速度和物体质置的乘积。
Momentum is defined as the product of the velocity and the mass of the body.(定语作主语）
③在历史上由于长江不断改道，在武汉地区形成了众多的湖泊。
The constant change of the course of the Changjiang River in history helped form a great many lakes in the areas around Wuhan.(状语作主语）
④众所周知，中国在1980年成功地发射了第一枚洲际导弹。
As is known to all, 1980 saw the successful launching of China's first international guided missile. (状语作主语）
⑤到去年年底，我部已同有关省市签订了100余艘小型船舶的建造合同和协议。
By the end or last year, contracts and agreements were signed with some provinces and cities for the building of more than 100 small-sized vessels.(宾语作主语）
⑥我给你打国际直拨电话就跟给楼下的李姐打电话差不多，ー拨就通。
An international phone call to you is as easy as a call to sister Li downstairs.(宾语作主语）
⑦只要稍稍恭维他几句，他就会得意忘形。
