让步状语从句表示主句行为或动作发生时的相反或不利的条件。英语中引导让步状语从句的连词有：although, though, even if, even though, as, while, if, whether, notwithstanding, no matter how (however), no matter whether, no matter what (whatever), no matter which (whichever), no matter when (whenever), no matter who (whoever), no matter where (wherever)等。
翻译英语的让步状语从句，大都将从句所表达的让步意义译在句首。只有在个别情况下，为照应上下文的需要才将其译在句中或句末。由于英汉两种语言的不同，英语的让步状语从句在汉译时有两种情況。
1. 译为让步分句
可译为“虽然”、“即使”、“尽管”等。如：
* While polyacetylene may be persuaded to conduct current as well as many metals do, this material is unfortunately no good for practical use.
虽然聚乙炔能够像许多金属一样导电，遗憾的是在实际中无法加以应用。
* Although CFCs do not harm the environment near the ground, they slowly travel upward to the ozone layer where they are broken down by UV light into chlorine atoms. Here, the chlorine atoms eat away at the ozone.
虽然氟里昂并不破坏地面附近的环境，但它们能緩慢上升至臭氧层，被紫外线分解为氯原子，大量吞噬臭氧。
* Though tiny spiders, flies, and other insects supplement the diet of the bee hummer, it obtains much of its nourishment from red trumpet flowers like this coral plant.
