再过一个多月，我们即将迎来中美建交40周年。中美恢复外交关系是一件大事，深刻改变了世界格局。40多年来，中美关系历经风雨和坎坷，但总体保持稳定前行。当今世界正面临百年未有之大变局，国际社会普遍期待着中美关系继续沿着正确的方向向前发展。
去年以来，双方建立了外交安全对话、全面经济对话、执法及网络安全对话、社会和人文对话四个高级别对话机制。第二轮外交安全对话半个月前在华盛顿结束，中美双方就进行了坦诚、建设性、富有成果的的交流。
再过两天，习近平和特朗普总统就将在阿根廷二十国集团峰会期间举行会晤。我们期待会晤取得积极成果，释放有利于中美关系继续强有力发展的信号。
In just over a month, we will usher in the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. The recovery of diplomatic relations between us was a major event that profoundly changed the world. For more than 40 years, China-US relations have experienced hardships and hurdles, but have nonetheless maintained a general sense of stability. Our world is now undergoing profound changes unseen in more than a century. The international community, as a whole, is looking forward to the continued stability of China-US relations. Our two nations have established four high-level dialogue mechanisms: namely, the diplomatic security dialogue, comprehensive economic dialogue, law enforcement and cyber-security dialogue, and social and cultural dialogue. Two weeks ago, the second round of the diplomatic security dialogue held in Washington came to a conclusion after both sides shared candid, constructive, and fruitful conversations. And in two days, Presidents Xi Jinping and Trump will meet during the G20 summit in Argentina. We look forward to the positive results of the meeting and signs that China-US relations will continue to develop strongly.
两国关系的发展需要领导人的引领，也需要两国人民的积极参与。我们很高兴地看到，正是在无数中美各界“善良的天使”的支持下，中美关系才能走到今天。
经贸上，两国互为最大贸易伙伴国，中国已成为美国第三大出口市场。2017年，双方双向投资存量达到2130亿美元，中国企业对美投资连续第三年超过美国企业对华投资。中美贸易平均为每个美国家庭节省850美元，支撑了几百万美国就业。人文上，2017年，中美有近600万人跨越太平洋两岸。
中美两国之间已经有49对友好省州、222对姐妹城市。35万中国留学生在美国各大高校求学，占在美外国留学生的三分之一，是最大国际学生群体。在芝加哥总领馆所覆盖领区9州，就有超过8万名中国留学生。
Of course, the development of bilateral relations requires both guidance on the part of the leadership, as well as the active participation of both countries' people at sub-national and grassroots level. It brings us joy to see that it is precisely with the support of countless "better angels" from all walks of life in China and the United States that China-US relations has made it to where it is today.
In terms of economy and trade, both countries are each other's largest trading partners. China has become the United States' third largest export market. In 2017, the two-way investment stock between China and the US reached $213 billion. Chinese companies invested more in the US than US companies in China for the third consecutive year. China-US trade saves an average of $850 per American household and gives rise to millions of US jobs. Socially speaking, in 2017, nearly 6 million people in China and the United States traveled to the other side of the Pacific. Thus far, China and the US share 49 friendly province-state relationships and 222 sister cities. 350,000 Chinese students study in major universities in the United States, accounting for one-third of foreign students studying in the United States and comprising this country's largest international student group. In the nine Midwestern states covered by the Chinese Consulate General in Chicago alone, there are more than 80,000 Chinese students attending universities.
