China has always been building, upholding and contributing to cyberspace. We stand ready to join hands with the international community to deepen dialogue and cooperation and make contributions to building a peaceful, secure, open, cooperative and orderly cyberspace.
Q: The Trump administration is considering new background checks and other restrictions on Chinese students in the US over growing espionage concerns. How do you comment on that and will China do retaliatory steps in this sphere?
A: In fact, I think my reply to a previous question is also applicable here.
我们现在生活在一个全球化的时代，任何人为地切断各国人民之间往来，为各国人民正常交往合作制造障碍的企图，都注定不得人心，也不会得逞。
具体到中美之间，我要说的是，中美开展人文交流与合作符合双方的共同利益，也符合两国人民的共同期望。人员往来也是促进中美两国各领域交流与合作的基础。我们希望美方能够正确看待并积极推动中美之间的人文交流与合作，为双方在这个领域的交往与合作创造更好的条件，而不是相反。
We are now living in an era of globalization. Any attempt to artificially sever people-to-people exchanges and create obstacles for the normal exchanges and cooperation between people of different countries will be unpopular and is doomed to fail.
When it comes to China and the US in particular, I shall say that the people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between China and the US are in the common interests of the two sides and in line with the shared aspirations of the two peoples. People-to-people exchanges also serve as the foundation to promote exchanges and cooperation in various fields between China and the US. We hope that the US will put this in perspective and vigorously promote the people-to-people exchanges and cooperation with China, so as to create better conditions for such exchanges and cooperation between the two sides rather than doing the opposite.
问：特朗普总统称他和习主席见面时可能就贸易问题达成协议。中方对此有何评论？
答：这几天的记者会上我一直在回答类似的问题。中方一直强调，中美经贸合作的本质是互利共赢。目前，双方经济团队正保持着密切接触，落实两国元首11月1日通话的共识精神。我们希望美方能够展示诚意，与中方相向而行，推动达成一个双方都能接受的方案。同时我们也希望，在双方的共同努力下，即将在阿根廷举行的中美元首会晤能够取得积极成果，为下一阶段中美关系的发展指明方向。
Q: US President Trump has suggested that he may be close to do some kind of deal on trade with China when he meets with President Xi. How does China view this prospect?
A: I have been taking similar questions at my press conferences these past few days. The Chinese side has been stressing that the economic and trade cooperation between China and the US is mutually beneficial and win-win in nature. Now the economic teams of the two sides are maintaining close contact to follow through on the consensus reached by the two heads of state at their telephone conversation on November 1. We hope the US side will show sincerity and meet China halfway so as to reach a mutually acceptable solution. Meanwhile, we also hope that with the concerted efforts of both sides, the upcoming meeting between the two heads of state in Argentina will achieve positive outcomes and chart a course for the development of China-US relations going forward.
