B. 当这三个介词后接表示动作的抽象名词或动名词时，这种手段具体表示采用某种方法或措施去进行某个行为动作。

by, with和through这三个介词常与某些词构成固定的或相对固定的词组表示这种手段意义，常见的有: by means of…，by [with/through] the use of …，by [through] the instrumentality of …，by virtue of…，by [through] the medium of…，by way of…， through [by] agency of...，by dint of..., with the aid [help] of... 等。它们的意义虽然有差別，但共同的是它们都是用以表示施动者 (不管是否出现在句子中) 进行动作所凭借的手段。

2.副词
在英语中，某些副词可以表示动作进行所凭借的手段。这些副词大都含有“用…...方法”的意义。例如: analystically (用分析的方法）、mechanically (用机械的方法)、microscopically (用显微镜的方法）、Surgically (施用外科手术)、ultrasonically (用超声波技术）、experimentally (用实验的手段）（用电的方法）等等。它们的意义都相当于由方法、手段介词所构成的手段附加语，或using 现在分词短语。
