2. 名词或形容词表示动作时，需要介词来协助

3. 介词一词多义的特点突出
英语一词多义的特点在介词上体现明显。以介词“in”为例，它可以表“在（某空间）里面” ，“in the classroom”；“在（某段时间）内”，“in the evening”；“在（一段时间）后 ”，“I'll be back in a few minutes.”;“ 具有某种特征“ ;“ The chair was in the newest style. ”；“ 处于某种状态”，“He was in good health.”； “穿着某种衣服”，“She was in a black overcoat.”等多种含义，而且越是常用介词，一词多义的特征越明显。
4. 复合介词结构具有动态性
此处所说的复合介词结构是指介词+名词+介词这样ー个组合。在此结构中，名词是由动词派生出来的， 所以大多都有动态性。这种结构用词精练严谨，在书面语体中使用尤其频繁。例如：
⑩ Professor Smith did not travel by air for fear of having a heart attack.
史密斯教授害怕突发心脏病，没有乘飞机去旅行
⑪ This product is in full conformity with our standard.
这个产品完全符合我们的标准。
⑫ The villagers built a monument in memory of those who had been killed in the war.
村民们建了一座纪念碑，以纪念在战争死去的人。
