科技英语中并列句的译法

英语并列句是由并列连词and，but, or等把两个或两个以上简单句连接起来的句子。在此，并不从连接词译法角度论述，而是着重于从并列句的角度来分析。
一、直译
并列句大都可以采用直译法，即按照句子顺序译为两个并列句。可以译出并列连词本身的含义，也可以视情况省译。如：
* Positive frequencies are produced by anticlockwise rotation and negative frequencies by clockwise rotation.
逆时针旋转的频率为正，顺时针旋转的频率为负。（省译了 and)
* In the case of the twirling ball, for example, centripetal force is applied to the ball while centrifugal force is applied to the string.
例如，在球快速旋转的情况下，向心力作用于球上，而离心力作用于绳子上。
二、译成复合句
英语并列句在汉译时，有时可以译为复合句，这种译法主要有以下两种情況。
1. 用and连接的两个分句，前一个分句是祈使句时，祈使句往往表示条件的含义，汉译时可以译为条件从句，可增译“如果”、“要使”、“假若”等。如：
* Look at crystals of table-salt under a magnifying glass and you will see that each crystal is a cube with six faces.
