科技翻译中whether的译法

whether作为从属连接词，可以引导名词性从句和让步状语从句。
1. 引导名词性从句
whether可以引导主语从句，表语从句，宾语从句以及同位语从句，可译为“是…… 还是”，“是否”等。
* It remains unknown whether these faults can be corrected.
这些缺陷是否可以排除还不清楚。（whether引导主语从句）
* The first thing we need to find out is whether excessive amounts of heavy water would be harmful to humans.
我们需要弄清的第一件事是过量的重水对人体是否有害。（whether引导表语从句）
* Some experts doubt whether the hardened mandrel shall be used for referee test purposes.
有些专家怀疑仲裁试验是否应该使用淬硬心轴。（whether引导宾语从句）
* There is a question whether we should start a new set of computations or not.
问题是我们是否要重新做一系列的计算。（whether引导同位语从句）
