多数中国的译者在把汉语翻译为英语时，对文体的敏感性不高，往往在该使用口语表达方式时，使用书面语；在该使用书面语时，使用口语。 

例如，本单元属于个人叙事，应当使用非正式英语，译者却使用了过于正式的表达方法。

原文：

放学回家，有时家中无人，邻居大婶总是招呼到他们家，坐在饭桌前，一切都是那么自然。

原译：

Sometimes nobody was at home when I went back from school, but the neighboring aunt would always invite me to her house for dinner. Sitting at the table with their family, everything seemed so natural to me.

改译：

If there was no one home when I came back from school, the aunt next door would call me over and we would have supper together. It all seemed quite natural.

Invite me to her house for dinner就过于正式；较随意的表达方法是： ask me over for a meal 或 call me over for a bite together。

原文：

我们都知道，国家在大力发展农村经济，我也期待家乡环境的改善。

原译：

We all know that China is striving to develop rural economy. I hope that economy in my hometown will grow more quickly.

改译：

The government is vigorously developing the rural economy, and I too expect improvements in my village.

Strive to develop就过于正式。有些英语词典（如朗文当代英语词典） 标出了单词的语域，如formal, informal还是old-fashioned，可以作为翻译或写作的参考。
