怪腔怪调或洋腔洋调是照搬原文用词或结构的结果，在中文表达上显得不顺畅，听起来不顺耳，看起来不对味。怪腔怪调的出现，虽不像理解出错那样会产生严重后果，但也是翻译时应注意避免的误区。
例1
Action plans to combat desertification and drought should include management aspects of the environment and development, thus conforming with the approach of integrating national development plans and national environmental action.
原译：防治沙漠化和旱灾的行动计划应把环境和发展的管理方面包含进去，以符合把国家发展计划和国家环境行动计划综合起来的做法。
讲评：“把……包含进去”、“把……综合起来”的表达方式既不自然，又不明快。
改译：防治沙漠化和旱灾的行动计划应包含环境与发展的管理内容，这样才能符合将国家发展计划和国家环境行动计划相结合的方针。
例2
If an alien who is being held in detention needs hospital care during the period of detention, he or she shall be given the opportunity for such treatment.
原译：如在押的外国人在拘留期间需要入院治疗，他或她应有机会得到这种治疗。
讲评：“他或她”不符合中文表达习惯。另外，既然从句和主句中主语相同，完全可以将主语提到句首，随后不必重复。
改译：在押的外国人如在拘留期间需要入院治疗，应有机会得到这种治疗。
例3
In view of the complexity of such an undertaking, he would appreciate further details concerning requirements for meeting rooms and information
technology infrastructure, as well as safety and security guarantees.
原译：鉴于这一工程的复杂性，如果在会议厅和信息技术基础设施的要求以及安全和保障的保证方面提供进一步的细节，他将表示感谢。
讲评：原译基本没错，就是句子有点洋化。
改译：鉴于该工程很复杂，他希望能收到更加详细的资料，说明会议室和信息技术基础设施有何要求，安全警卫方面有何保障。
