汉语里的范畴词象“工作”，“现象”、“作用”、“方法”、 “技术”、“过程”、“装置”、“问题”、“情况”、“效应”、“方式”、“办法”、“途径”、“部分”、“设备”、“系统”、“化”、“体” ……等，译成英语时往往可以省略，并不影响意义。例如：
1）根据水的蒸发现象，人们知道液体在一定的条件下能变成气体。
From the evaporation of water people know that liquids can turn into gases under certain conditions. （省略‘现象’二字）
2）这种加工方法所需要的温度要低于熔化该金属的温度。
The temperature needed for this processing is lower than that needed to melt the metal.（省略‘方法’二字）
3）由于摩擦作用，我们从一部机器获得的有用功总是比它所能产生的功要小。
On account of friction we always get less useful work out of a machine than it could have given. (省略‘作用’二字）
4）这意味着这类扩散层的电阻温度系数，主要取决于它随温度而发生的迁移率的变化情况。
This means that the temperature coefficient of resistance of such layers is predominantly determined by the change of mobility with temperature. (省略‘情况’二字）
5）他以工程师身份对设计的修订工作提出建议。
His suggestion in regard to the modification of the design was made in the light of an engineer . (省略‘工作’二字）
