连接词、短语、从句或句子的词叫连词。连词是虚词，不能独立担任句子成分。英语的连词从形式上可分为简单连词（如and, but, for, before)、关联连词（如both...and, not only...but also)、分词连词（如 provided, supposing 等）和短语连词（如 as though, as soon as, in order that, so that)。从连词本身的含义和功用来看，又可分为并列连词和从属连词两类。连词一般包括并列连词和从属连词，译法主要有三种：
一、直译
所谓直译，就是把连词的字面意思直接翻译出来。如：
* Leading and trailing edge ribs that are extensively damaged must be replaced.
损伤面积过大的前缘肋和后缘肋，必须更换。
* The wire must not be in contact with the air or it will become oxidized and burn out.
金属丝不应与空气相接触，否则会被氧化并烧毁。
* While polyacetylene can be persuaded to conduct current as well as many metals do，this material is unfortunately no good for practical use.
虽然聚乙炔可以被认为能够像许多金属一样导电，遗憾的是这种材料无法实际使用。
二、转译
同样，为了符合汉语的表达习惯，井能准确表达原文的含义，汉译时英语的连词也可进行转译。并列连词有时可以转译成从属连词，而有时从属连词也可以转译成并列连词，或从属连词改变原有的功能转译成其他意义的从属连词。如：
