3. there be句型中定语从句的翻译
在there be句型中，其主语多为一个名词，而后置的定语从句多为限制性定语从句，其限制性很强，是句子意义的核心所在，汉译时常常译为主句的谓语部分，和原句的主语融合在一起翻译，所以这种翻译方法又称为融合法。如：
* There are certain problems that are common to all commercial-release operating systems.
某些问题是商业版操作系统普遍存在的问题。
* Since the liquid is cohesive，there is a surface which does not touch the container wall.
由于液体是内聚性的，因而有一个表面不与容器的壁接触。
* There are some who claim ECT is both effective and safe, detractors who claim it is neither, and a public that is simply unsure.
有些人宣称电痉挛疗法既有效又安全，反对者说它既无效又危险，而公众则根本无所适从。
4. 译为词组
任何语言都要求在表达上尽可能地做到简练、明确，这叫做“经济原则”。英语中的定语从句是ー个起定语作用的句子，结构往往比较复杂，但是我们有时可以把定语从句（一般为限制性定语从句）简化为汉语的ー个词组。这样做，不仅与原义并行不悖，且更显言简意赅。如：
* Steady flight means unaccelerated flight, or flight in which the velocity does not change.
定常飞行指的是恒速飞行，或者说匀速飞行。
* Diamond is the hardest natural substance that is known.
金刚石是已知最硬的天然物质。
* There is a third method by which heat travels, namely, radiation.
热传导还有第三个方法叫做辐射。
* New information, regarding new subscribers, subscribers who move temporarily, subscribers who leave the system, and other changes, is added to the subscriber data almost every day.
关于新用户、暂迁用户、拆除用户，以及其他变化的新信息，几乎每天都在填入用户数据中。
