多亏了绿色植物，空气中才充満了游离氧。
例1的there实指in our invention;例2的It is与that构成强调句型，通过“多亏”再现原文的形式意义。
2)减虚词
虚词的减省，主要指冠词、连词、介同等的减省。有些虚词在英语中有用，在汉语里不一定需要。译出则会使汉语膨化，甚至造成汉语失范。
(a) 冠词的减译
With an equation we can work with an unknown quantity.
用方程可求未知量。
The total length of the intestines of a newborn baby equals eight times his body length.
新生儿的肠道总长度是身长的8倍。
(b) 介词的减译
专有名词中的介词应尽量不评，如American Society for Metals 美国金属学会，International Association for Hydraulic Research 国际水力研究学会，Massachusetts Institute of Technology 麻省理工学院。有的介词的意义融入句中，被隐没了。如：
The drag reduction unit potentially increases maximum range by 23%.
这种减阻装置能将最大射程提高23%。
(c)连词的减译
连词只起连接作用，有的逻辑关系在英语中是显性的，在汉语中则是隐性的，减介词主要靠汉语的语感。如：
Some methods of measurement are direct, but others are indirect.
有些测量方法是直接的，有些是间接的。
No flow of electric current occurs unless there is a difference of potential.
没有电位差，就不会产生电流。
