例四：The conditions mentioned are merely conductive to sleep.
【说明】conductive译为汉语动词“促进”。
【译文】上述条件仅能促进睡眠。
例五：In such a case the patient is often desirous to be operated upon.
【说明】desirous译为汉语动词“渴望”。
【译文】在这种情况下，患者常常渴望接受手术。
例六：The old are particularly susceptible to brain damage and are less likely to completely recover from it.
【说明】susceptible译为汉语动词“容易遭受”，likely译为汉语动词“可能”。
【译文】老年人特别容易遭受脑损害，而且不大可能完全恢复。
③介词转换为汉语动词
英语中介词或介词短语用法活跃。若其在句子中起动词作用，用来表示动作或行为，即可转换为汉语的动词。
例七： They at last successfully stopped the bleeding and got the patient out of danger.
【说明】out of译为汉语动词“脱离”。
【译文】他们终于成功地止住血，使病人脱离了危险。
例八：It may be that toxic material is absorbed from the burnt area into the general circulation.
【说明】into译为汉语动词“进入”。
【译文】毒性物质可能自烧伤部位被吸收，进入全身循环。
④副词转换为汉语动词
在句子中作表语或宾语补足语的副词，往往可转换为汉语动词。
例九： There is an opening at the upper part of the stomach called cardiac orifice which allows food in.
【说明】in译为汉语动词“进入”。
【译文】在胃上部有一个开口（即贲门）让食物进人胃中。
