Speech by Consul-General Zhao Jian at the Business Forum on the 1st China International Import Expo

各位朋友，
大家好。欢迎各位出席中国驻墨尔本总领馆与维州政府、澳贸委共同举办的庆祝首届中国国际进口博览会成功举行经贸研讨会。
11月上旬，由中国国家主席习近平亲自提议的首届中国国际进口博览会在上海成功举行。博览会吸引了全球3000家企业参展，40多万名境内外采购商到会洽谈采购，成交额达到578亿美元。

Dear Friends,
Welcome to the Business Forum on the 1st China International Import Expo (CIIE) jointly hosted by the Chinese Consulate, the Victorian government and Austrade.
The CIIE initiated by Chinese President Xi Jinping was successfully inaugurated in Shanghai in early November. It was attended by over 3,000 companies and more than 400,000 Chinese and foreign buyers who sealed US$57.8 billion worth of deals.
这是世界上第一个以进口为主题的国家级展会，是国际贸易发展史上的一大创举。博览会由中国主办，世界贸易组织等多个国际组织和众多国家共同参与，不是中国的独唱，而是各国的大合唱。在当今贸易保护主义不断抬头的背景下，举办中国国际进口博览会体现了中国支持多边贸易体制、推动发展自由贸易的一贯立场，是中国推动建设开放型世界经济、支持经济全球化的实际行动，也表达了中国进一步拥抱世界的坚定决心。
The CIIE is the world's first import expo held at the national level, a ground-breaking initiative in the history of global trade. It was an event hosted by China with the support of many international organizations including the WTO and a large number of countries. It is not China's solo show, but rather a chorus involving many countries around the world.
Held against the backdrop of growing trade protectionism, the Expo has demonstrated China's consistent position of supporting the multilateral trading system and promoting free trade. It is a concrete action by China to promote the building of an open world economy and support economic globalization. It is also a testament to China's firm determination to embrace the world with open arms.
