第一，熟悉民事判决书中经常出现的法律英语词汇。例如，“公开审理”可译为hear cases in an open court session,“不公开审理”可译为 trial in camera,“合议庭”可译为collegial panel，“独议庭”可译为sole-judge bench，“驳回请求”译为dismiss or reject the claims，等等。
第二，我国的民事判决书标题一般译为Civil Judgment 或者 Civil Case Decision，而人民法院的民事裁定书则翻译为Civil Order。
① 在判决书第一部分陈述案由的时候，通常将“原告xx(姓名）诉被告xx（姓名）损害赔偿纠纷一案，本院受理后，依法组成合议庭（或依法由审判员xx独任审判），公开进行了审理。本案现已审理终结。”翻译为In respect of the damages claims filed by Plaintiff, …., against Defendant, …., this court has accepted the case as filed, and formed the tribunal by law that heard the case in open court sessions (or this course has accepted the case, which was heard by a sole judge, × × ×) . The case is tried and closed.
② 第二部分包括“原告xx诉称：……被告人xx辩称：……第三人xx述称：……”等内容，可以分别译为：Plaintiff,...,claimed as follows：…;Defendant defended as follows...; the third party...stated that...
③ 原被告向法庭提交证据材料也是事实的一个重要组成部分（The following evidentiary documents were submitted by Plaintiff)，如果被告对原告所提供的证据没有异议（Defendant has no objection to the above evidences)，法院将认定原告提交的证据材料具有证据效力(the court holds that the Exhibits submitted by Plaintiff are valid evidence)。如果被告对原告的证据材料提出异议，则 Defendant objects to Exhibit...submitted by Plaintiff，并且原告也没有其他证据予以佐证(Plaintiff has no other evidence to prove the issue)，法院认定原告提供的证据不具有证据效力（the court holds that Exhibit...submitted by Plaintiff is not valid evidence) 或者 the court shall not uphold the verity of Exhibit...
④ 根据上述的有效证据，本院认定以下事实（On the basis of the above valid evidence, this court finds the following facts)，在此基础上，法院针对原告提出的诉讼请求给予支持或否定（Plaintiff's claim that or for...can or cannot be supported by the court)。
⑤ 最后法院依据相关的具体法律法规，做出判决（In accordance with the relevant laws and regulations, it ordered as follows)；如不服本判决，可在判决书送达之日起十五日内，向本院递交上诉状，并按对方当事人的人数提出副本，上诉于xx中级人民法院 (Appeal shall be brought by a dissatisfied party to... Intermediate People's Court via this court within 15 days from the service of the judgment in the number of copies corresponding to the number of adverse parties.)
⑥ 如果法院正在审理的案件是上诉案件，上诉法院做出的判决通常有四种情况：维持原判(The judgment of the first-instance court is affirmed)；推翻下级法院的判决（The judgment of the first-instance court is reversed)；改变下级法院的判决（The appellate court modifies the judgment of the lower court);将案件发回重审(The case is remanded for retrial)。
