Dear Professor White,

I have learned from the Admission Office that I am fortunate enough to have you, a distinguished scientist, as my advisor during my graduate study at University of Minnesota. I am sure that with such a well-known professor's guidance I will get through my academic career with great success. Now I am excited to write to you to report my preparation.

I have gone over anatomy, physiology and pathology and I am reviewing my pharmacology studies. They are all, of course, written in English.

Besides this, I have applied for and been accepted into the intensive English program in New York which starts next April. I now have just received the F-1 student visa from the American Consulate here and will leave for New York around March 30, 2000.

The principle behind my present preparation is to have a good command of basic medical courses and improve my proficiency in thc English language. I would like to be better prepared for my future studies. Is it possible for you to please advise me on how to improve my preparatory work?

I shall be delighted to hear from you before flying to New York.
