I have a manicure and a pedicure every week.

“指甲油”不是“nail oil”

说到美甲，肯定离不开指甲油。指甲的英文是nail，但指甲油可千万不要直译为nail oil哦！其正确表达是nail polish.

Nail polish can make my nails look good. 

指甲油使得我的指甲看上去很漂亮。

“nail”除了表示“指甲”，还有“钉子”的意思，下面是关于“nail”的一些地道用法：

nail down

从字面上看，nail down是钉下去或钉牢，如果把什么东西往下钉在地板上的话，那它的位置就固定不变，成了定局。所以其引申义是“敲定；确定（协议）”。

I nailed down a contract to sell a thousand cars.

我敲定了出售一千辆汽车的合约。

another nail in the coffin

coffin是“棺材”，字面看，这个短语的意思是“又一根棺材钉子”，用来指代那些有害健康、危及生命的东西。人们给香烟起的绰号就是coffin nail.

Every cigarette you light up is another nail in your coffin.

你每点上一枝香烟，就等于往坟墓跨近了一步。

hit the nail on the head

字面意思是“一下子钉准到图钉钉帽”，引申为“击中要害；说到点子上”。
