这个译文的特点是：用被动语态的“is started”译汉语“始”；而以“by+-ing”短语译“于足下”。
是否可以不用被动态、也不用“by+-ing”短语呢？可以的，如：
2. A journey of a thousand miles starts with but a single step. (《新英和大辞典》）
3. A journey of a thousand miles must begin with the first step. (《新スタンタンド》、《和英》、《新ポケット和英》）
4. A thousand-// journey starts with the first step.(《汉英成语和常用语词典》，甘肃人民出版社，1979年5月）
