1. while作并列连词的译法
连接并列句，可表示对比也可表示递进。表示对比时相当于whereas，译为“而”、“可是”等。表示递进时相当于and what is more，译为“并且”、“而且”。如：
* Unfortunately, ground level ozone is increasing while stratospheric ozone decreases.
令人遗憾的是，地面臭氧在增加，而同温层奥氣却日渐減少。
* Some display terminals only use a few hundred rows with a few hundred pixels per row, while the more expensive display screen can use over a thousand rows with over a thousand pixels per row.
一些显示终端仅用几百行（每行具有几百个像素），而更昂贵的显示屏幕可超过 1,000行（毎行超过1,000个像素）。
* The new man-made fibers are more hardwearing than natural fibers and greatly reduce mending, while good ready-made clothes are cheap and plentiful.
新的人造纤维比天然纤维耐磨，因此能大大减少修补工作，而且做好的衣服价廉物美，数量也多。
* Waves are all of the same length, while they are in step.
所有波的波长都相同，而且同歩。
2. while作从属连接词的译法
除了可以做并列连词外，while还可以作从属连接词，引导表示时间、让步、条件和原因的状语从句。
