这个英文句子有人译为：“在探测到目标之后，视场自动变换为窄视场，并启动自动踉踪，这样便于允许飞行员观察到所显示的远距离放大了的目标图象”。在这个英文句子中，译者没有理顺“… initiated to display …permitting…by the pilot”这部分的逻辑关系而译错了。我们根据上下文将整个句子改译为：“继探测到目标之后，宽视场就自动变换为窄视场，并且启动自动跟踪装置以显示潜在目标的放大图象，这样便于飞行员作出是否要攻击目标的决定”。
2. 数字正确
正确翻译数学(倍数）也是不容忽视的问题。无论翻译科技论文还是技术合同书，常常会遇到数字翻译问题，译者若不小心很可能铸成大错或损失。以“by a factor of......”这个固定介词组来说吧， 或表示“増加了”或“提髙了”，采用“n— 1倍”；若表示“減少了"或“降低了”则用“n— 1/n倍”。但有的译者偏偏把这个词组的意思弄错，例如：
(1) 原文：The increase of the number of serial detector by a factor of four theoretically improves the overall system signal-to- noise ratio by a facter of two.
错译文：理论上串联探测器的数目增加四倍，系统的信噪比提高两倍。
正译文：从理论上讲，串联探测器的数目增加三倍，整个系统的信噪比则提髙一倍。
(2) 原文：The aim of this device design was to replace an eight row SPRITE device in a system with an eight row by four serial array, which could improve the system sensitivity by a factor of 2.
错译文：本器件设计的目的，是用ー个8X4串联列阵代替一个8条的SPRITE器件，前者可使系统的灵敏度提高两倍。
正译文：本器件设计的目的在于，用ー个8X4串联列阵代替ー个8条SPRITE器件，前者可使系统的灵敏度提高一倍。
(3)原文：A large reduction in the power required to rotate the polygon is achieved when the scanner adopts a scan efficiency which is almost a factor of two lower than that of the television display.
