Some English metaphorical sentences can be translated directly into Chinese animate sentences. The first step is to find the right animate Subject of the sentence. Then make some changes in the arrangement of other elements in the sentence. For example:
(1) An idea suddenly occurred to me.
我突然想到了一个主意。
(2) That night sleep eluded me.
那天晚上，我没有睡好。
(3) The plan strikes me as ridiculous.
我觉得那项计划很荒唐。
(4) Despair seized him (at the thought of her setting out alone to renew the weary quest for work).
(一想到她孤零零地重新踏上寻找工作的艰辛历程，)他就觉得万念俱灰。
(5) A chill of horror suddenly swept over him.
他突然感到不寒而栗。
(6) Rarely did his sense of humour desert the noble man.
这位高尚的人很少失去幽默感。
(7) All my courage deserted me.
我完全丧失了勇气。
(8) Sleep didn't visit Rainsford (although the silence of a dead world was on the jungle).
（尽管丛林里是死一般的寂静）雷恩斯福德还是不能入睡。
(9) Hope persisted in Marshall (because the only alternative was a military solution).
马歇尔没有放弃希望（不然的话就得军事解决）。
(10) My admiration for him grew more.
我对他越发敬佩。
(11) Reproach spared him not, even when in his grave.
他即使在死后也不能免于遭受人们的非难。
(12) A smile rested on her lips.
她嘴角上露出了微笑。
(13) My ears are singing.
我有些耳鸣。
(14) A suspicion sprang up in his mind.
他脑中产生了一些怀疑。
(15) Pity stirred in her heart.
她心中产生了怜悯的感情。
(16) Suddenly a happy thought struck her.
她突然有了一个很妙的想法。
(17) Age was telling on him.
他慢慢感到衰老了。
(18) Her mind travelled over recent events.
她想到了最近发生的许多事情。
(19) His thought wandered back to his college days.
他回想起大学的那些日子。
(20) American education owes a great debt to Thomas Jefferson.

(21) Fury took possession of him.
他一下子怒不可遏。
(22) Her face always wore a cheerful smile.

In the examples above, most English metaphorical sentences are represented by Subject-verb transitivity systems except the last two, which are represented by Subject-verb-Object transitivity systems. Though all the original sentences have inanimate Subjects, they are translated into animate sentences in Chinese.
