汉语中的重复有些是衔接的需要，有些是表达习惯问题，有些仅仅起到修辞作用(如为了读起来上口)，有些纯粹就是原文没有写好。无论哪种重复，翻译为英语时，都应在保持原文意思不变的情况下，对原文进行简化处理。通常主要从词语和句子的角度探讨了消除臃肿的方法，这里强调段落一级的做法。
例 1.
改革资金缴拨方式，将以多重账户为基础的分散收付制度，改为以国库单一账户体系为基础、资金缴拨以国库集中收付为主要形式的现代国库管理制度。
原译：
Chinese government will reform its capital payment and allocation style, and change the decentralized revenues and expenditures system on the basis of multiple accountings into the modem treasury management system with the treasury unitary accounting system as its basis and treasury concentrated revenues and expenditures as its main style of capital payment and allocation. 首先，在核心句基础上进行翻译；
中国政府将改革资金缴拨方式 The Chinese government will reform the way in which funds are collected and allocated.
分散收付制度建立在多重账户基础之上 The decentralized collection and allocation system is based on multiple accounts.
