（三）方式状语
立法文本内容通常会涉及法律行为主体履行或者不履行法律行为的方式，比如交货方式等。因此方式状语对明确法律规范的内容起着重要的作用。请看下列例句：
例7：Representativesand direct taxes shall be apportioned among the several states which may be included within this union, according to their respective numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole number of free persons, including those bound to service for a term of years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons.
参考译文：众议员人数及直接税税额，应按联邦所辖各州的人口数目比例分配，此项人口数目的计算法，应在全体自由人民一包括订有契约的短期仆役，但不包括未被课税的印第安人——数目之外，再加上所有其他人口之五分之三。
译文分析：原文中使用“by”引导的方式状语来说明各州人口数目计算的方法。由于原文交代的计算方式较为复杂，翻译时我们可以不把“by”明确译出。
（四）目的状语
目的状语用来明确法律规范的目的。常见的目的状语引导词有“in order to”、“to”、“so as to”等，目的状语的引导词通常可以相互替代使用。请看以下例句：
例8：当事人签订买卖房屋或者其他不动产物权的协议，为保障将来实现物权，按照约定可以向登记机构申请预告登记。
参考译文：In case the relevant parties enter into a purchase agreement on a premise or the real right of any other realty,they may apply for advance notice registration to the registration organ so as to ensure the realization of the real right in the future.
译文分析：当事人签订协议的目的就是为了保障将来实现物权，这一目的性状语在译文中可选用“so as to/to/in order to”来引导。
