一般而言，在译“比”字时，常见的译法是在比较级的形容词或副词之后使用than，其实，“比”字的译法不只有than，还可凭借下列各种方式来表达：
1.“比”字译为形容词短语
当“比”字涉及以-ior 结尾的词 superior, inferior, senior, junior, prior, enterior, poslerior 或 preferable，comparahle, proportional, similar 等形容词时，“比”字则译为to。
例1 我方产品比其他公司生产的产品质量更优。
译文：Our products are superior to others，in quality.
例2 没有任何一匹马的速度能与他的马的速度相比。
译文：No horse has a speed comparable to that of his.
例3 产品的价格与其质量成正比。
译文：The price of a product is proportional to its quality.
2.“比”字译为动词或动词词组
常见的这类动词或动词短语有prefer, surpass, excel，match，rival, draw an analogy，compare to，hear comparison with, stand comparison with，give precedence over，have priority over,give sb an advantage over, be equal to 等。
例4 他比同部门的所有员工都优秀。
译文：He excels all the other workers of his unit.
例5 上海比长沙面积大，人口多。
译文：Shanghai exceeds Changsha in size and population.
例6 这些东西比其他一切都好。
译文：Such things give precedence over all other things.
