我们常说的“hospital”指的是综合性大医院，维基百科上的定义如下。

“go to hospital”一般味着病得非常严重，必须住院接受治疗。所以感冒发烧之类的小问题，外国人更常说“go to the doctor”或者“see a doctor”。因为国外一般有完备的家庭医生体系，如果是小毛病，直接预约去医生的诊所（clinic）就诊就可以。

如果只是身体有小毛病，但是跟外国朋友说“go to hospital”，他们可能会误以为是非常严重需要住院的病，这就容易闹误会啦。但是有时候感冒发烧之类的小问题可能会去诊所也可能会去医院，怎么说才算对呢？这时候就要考虑具体语境，一般来说直接说“看医生”是最稳妥的啦。
