(The Valuable Collection of the Jade Plate on the Pulse Condition Indicating the Exhaustion of the Visceral-energy)
黄帝问日:春脉如弦，何如而弦?岐伯对日:春脉者肝[《脉经》《甲乙》《千金》“脉”下并无“者”字，下“夏、秋、冬”同《太素》《四时脉形论》“肝”下有“脉”字]也，东方木也，万物之所以始生也，故其气来，软弱轻[《太素》“软”作“濡”，“轻”作“软”]虚而滑，端直以长，故日弦，反此者病。帝日:何如而反?”岐伯日:“其气来实而强[《千金》“强”作“弦”]，此谓太过，病在外;其气来不实而微，此谓不及，病在中。”帝日:“春脉太过与不及，其病皆何如?”岐伯日:“太过则令人善忘[《气交变大论》林校引“善忘”作“善怒”]，忽忽眩冒而巅疾;其不及，则令人胸痛引背，下则[明抄“两胁”上无“下则”二字]两胁胠满。”
Yellow Emperor asked: "The pulse condition of spring is wiry, but what is wiry like?"
Qibo answered:"The pulse of spring is liver pulse, it associates with wood of east, which has the scene of vitality of all things; as the pulse condition is moist, soft, weak, empty and slippery, straight and long, so it is called wiry. If the condition is on the contrary, it is the diseased pulse."
Yellow Emperor asked:"What is the condition when it is on the contrary?" Qibo answered: "When the condition of the pulse-energy is substantial and wiry in coming, it is the condition of going beyond, which is the disease in the exterior; if the pulse energy is not substantial and weak, it is the condition of falling short, which shows the disease is in the interior." Yellow Emperor asked:"What syndromes will occur when the pulse condition of spring is going beyond or falling short?" Qibo answered: "One will often get angry and feel dizziness and headache when it is going beyond; one will feel pain in the chest like the back being dragged, and distension of the lateral sides of the thorax when it is falling short."
帝曰:“善，夏脉如钩，何如而钩?”岐伯日:“夏脉者心也，南方火也，万物之所以盛长也，故其气来盛去衰，故日钩，反此者病。”帝日:“何如而反?”岐伯日:“其气来盛去亦盛此谓太过，病在外;其气来不盛去反盛，此谓不及，病在中”。帝日:“夏脉太过与不及，其病皆何如?”岐伯日:“太过则令人身热而肤[《太素》《甲乙》“肤”并作“骨”]痛，为浸淫;其不及则令人烦心[《中藏经》“心”作“躁”]，上见欬唾[《中藏经》“见”作“为”，《太素》“欬”作“噬”]，下为气泄。”
Yellow Emperor said: "Good", The pulse condition of summer is like a hook, but what is a hooked pulse?" Qibo answered:"The pulse of summer is the heart pulse, it associates with fire of south, which has the scene of flourishing of all things; as the coming of the pulse-energy is abundant, but becomes deficient when going like the image of a hook, it is called the hooked pulse, if the condition is on the contrary, it is the diseased pulse."
Yellow Emperor asked:"What is the condition when it is on the contrary?" Qibo answered: "When the pulse energy is abundant in coming, and also abundant in going, it is going beyond which shows the disease is in the exterior; if the pulse energy is not abundant in coming but becomes abundant when going, it is falling short which shows the disease is in the interior." Yellow Emperor asked:"What are the diseases of going beyond and falling short in summer?" Qibo answered:"One will have fever, pain in bone and erosion of sore when it is going beyond; feeling oppressed over the chest, chewing saliva in the upper part and breaking wind in the lower when it is falling short."
