春胃微弦日平，弦多胃少日肝病，但弦无胃曰死，胃而有毛[《脉经》作“有胃而毛”，“毛”为轻而浮滑之脉乃秋平之象]日秋病，毛甚曰今病，藏真散于肝，肝藏筋膜之气也。夏胃微钩日平，钩多胃少日心病，但钩无胃曰死，胃而有石曰冬病，石甚曰今病，藏真通于心，心藏血脉之气也。长夏胃微软弱曰平，弱多胃少日脾病，但代[按“代”字误，应作“弱”]无胃曰死，软弱有石日冬病，弱[《千金》“弱”作“名”]甚曰今病，戴真濡于脾，脾藏肌肉之气也。秋胃微毛日平，毛多胃少曰肺病，但毛无胃日死，毛[明抄本，吴注本“毛”并作“胃”]而有弦日春病，弦甚日今病，藏真高于肺，以行荣卫阴阳也。冬胃微石日平，石多胃少曰肾病，但石无胃曰死，石而有钩日夏病，钩甚日今病，藏真下于肾，肾藏骨髓之气也。
"The pulse condition in spring is wiry with moderate stomach-energy is called the normal pulse of spring, if the wiry condition is outstanding with little stomach-energy, it is the diseases pulse of liver; if only the wiry pulse condition is seen without any stomach-energy, the patient will die; if in the stomach-energy has, in addition, the light, floating or slippery pulse which is a typical autumn pulse, the patient will contract disease in autumn, but if the floating and slippery condition is outstanding, the disease will occur immediately. In clinic observation, one should notice that spring is the season for the heathy energies of viscera spreading on the liver, and liver is to store the energy of aponeurosis mainly.
"The pulse condition in summer is hooked with moderate stomach-energy which is called the normal pulse of summer, if the hooked pulse condition is outstanding with little stomach energy, it is the diseased pulse of heart; if only the hooked condition is seen without any stomach-energy, the patient will die; if in the stomach-energy has, in addition, the stony pulse which is the typical winter pulse, the patient will contract disaese in winter, but if the stony condition is outstanding, the disease will occur immediately. In clinic observation, one should notice that summer is the season for the true energies of five viscera to communicate with the heart, and the heart is to store the energy of the blood mainly.
"The pulse condition in long summer is soft and weak with moderate stomach-energy which is called the normal pulse of long summer; if the weak and soft condition is outstanding with little stomach-energy, it is the diseased pulse of spleen, if only the soft and weak condition is seen without any stomach energy, the patient will die: if in the soft and weak pluse has in addition the stony pulse, which is a typical winter pulse, the patient will contract disease in winter, but if the soft and weak condition of the pulse is outstanding, the disease will occur immediately. In clinic observation, one should notice that long summer is the season for the healthy energies of five viscera to nourish the spleen, and the spleen is to store the muscular-energy mainly.
"The pulse condition in autumn is floating and scattering with moderating stomach-energy, it is called the normal pulse of autumn; if the floating and scattering condition is prominenit with little stomach-energy,it is the discased pulse of lung : if only the floating and scattering condition is seen without any stomach-energy, the patient will die. If the wiry pulse condition occurs with the stomach-energy, the patient will contract disease in spring, but if the wiry condition is outstanding, the disease will occur immediately. In clinic observation, one should notice that autumn is the season when the healthy energies of five viscera reaching up to communicate with the lung, and the lung is to store the energies of skin and hair mainly.
"The pulse condition in winter is sunken and stony with moderating stomach-energy, which is called the normal pulse of winter; if the sunken and stony condition is prominent with little stomach-energy, it is diseased pulse of kidney; if only the sunken and stony pulse is seen without any stomach energy, the patient will dies if the hooked condition is seen in addition to the sunken and stony pulse, the patient will contract disease in summer, if the hooked condition is outstanding, the disease will occur immediately. In clinic observation one should notice that winter is the season for the healthy energies of five viscera to store in the kidney, and kidney is to store the energy of bone marrow mainly.
