三者人也，人之所以成生者血脉也。故为之治[治:《甲乙》卷五第二“治”下有“匙”字]针，必大其身而员其末，令可以按脉勿陷，以至其气，令邪气[令邪气:《甲乙》巻五第二作“使邪”]独出。
The third kind of needle is analogizing the man, and the growth of man depends upon the unceasing operation of the channel. In order to treat the disease of the channel，the blunt-tip needle is made, the body of the needle is large and its tip is round so that it can massage the channel and the collateral without bogging down into the muscle, it can induce the health energy to become unimpeded and remove the evil energy from inside individually.
四者时也，时者，四时八风之客于经络之中，为瘤病者也。故为之治针，必箫其身而锋其末，令可以泻热出血，而痼病竭。
The fourth kind of needle is analogizing the four seasons. When one's channel and collateral inside are invaded by the evils from the eight directions of the four seasons, the protracted disease will occur. In order to treat this kind of disease, the ensiform needle is made, the body of the needle is straight and its tip is sharp, which can excrete the heat, let out the blood and purge the chronic disease.
五者音也，音者冬夏之分，分于子午，阴与阳别，寒与热争，两气相搏，合为痈脓[脓:《甲乙》卷五第二作“肿”]者也。故为之治[治:《甲乙》卷五第二“治”下有“铍”字]针，必令其末如剑锋，可以取大脓。
The fifth kind of needle is analogizing the five tones, the number of five situates in the middle bet ween the numbers of one and nine. Among the nine palaces, one stands for the winter Solstice and Zi, nine stands for the Summer Solstice and Wu, as five is at the centre, it divides the winter and the summer, since the winter and the summer are divided, the Zi and Wu are also divided. It analogizes that there is the difference of Yin and Yang in human body and there is combat between the cold-energy and the heat-energy, when the two energies combine, the disease of carbuncle will occur. In order to treat this kind of disease, the sword-shaped needle is made, its tip resembles the tip of a sword for to pierce the carbuncle and eliminate the pus.
六者律也，律者，调阴阳四时而合十二经脉，虚邪客于经络而为暴痹者也。故为之治[治:《甲乙》卷五第二“治”下有“员利”二字]针，必令尖如幣，且员且锐，中身微大，以取暴气。
The sixth kind of needle is analogizing the six laws in music; as the six laws harmonize the high and low notes and the Yin and Yang, it can be used to explain the twelve channels of man. If the Yin and Yang in the human body is not harmonious and the exogenous evil takes chance to invade the channels, the acute bi-syndrome will occur. In order to treat the bi-syndrome of this kind, the horse-tail-shaped needle is made, its tip is round and sharp and is as thin as the hair, but the body of the needle is rather thick, so that it can be used to treat the sudden attack of the bi-syndrome.
