A: During US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit here yesterday, he exchanged views on bilateral relations and important international and regional issues with the Chinese side, including the economic and trade issues. I would like to stress the following points:

　　第一，中美经贸关系的本质是互利共赢的，我们一直主张在相互尊重、平等互利的基础上，通过对话协商，以建设性的方式处理经贸问题，不断缩小分歧、扩大合作，造福两国人民。 

　　第二，中美之间就经贸问题，包括中美经贸摩擦问题保持着沟通，也进行了磋商，事实上也取得了一定进展。如果大家还记得，本月初中美经贸磋商后，中方发表了有关声明。我们在声明中明确指出，如果美方出台包括加征关税在内的贸易制裁措施，双方谈判达成的所有经贸成果将不会生效。 

First, the China-US economic and trade ties are mutually beneficial in nature. We always maintain that the two sides should, on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, engage in dialogue and consultation to approach the economic and trade issues, continuously bridge the differences, expand cooperation and deliver benefits to our two peoples. 

Second, China and the US have maintained communication, conducted consultation, and in fact made some progress on economic and trade issues, including on our trade disputes. If you still remember, the Chinese side issued relevant statement after the trade talks early this month. It is explicitly pointed out in the statement that all economic and trade outcomes of the talks will not take effect if the US side imposes any trade sanctions including raising tariffs.
