Non-destructive investigations of intermetallic compounds are undertaken, on compact metallographic specimens by one of the following methods:
1. X-ray structure analysis can be used with great success particularly in the investigation of two-phase alloys where the crystal type can be only determined crystallographically.
2. Laser microspectral analysis yields qualitative results only. The quantitative concentrations of the individual elements cannot be determined.
