在常用词employee (雇员）中有个来自法语的表示人的名词后缀-ee。-ee多充当派生后缀，它一般加在及物动词后面，表示行为的接受者，意思为a person who is〜ed (被…者），a person to whom sth. is〜ed (与某事有关的人）。有时，-ee也可以与不及物动词结合，表示动作的执行者，意思为a person who〜s。-ee充当原生后缀的情况较少见。注意，此类带-ee的派生名词， 重音总是落在末音节。
下面各举一代表性词例说明上述用法。
employee [employ v. 雇员；-ee=>“a person who is employed 受雇用者”→]n. a person who works for some person or firm for pay 雇员，雇工 / This large factory has 800 employees.这家大 厂有800名雇员。
inductee [induct v. 使入会，征调…入伍；-ee→]n. a person who has been or soon will be inducted, especially into the armed forces就任者；入会者；应征入伍者/ The average inductee was reading in the sixth grade in World War I. 第一次世界大战期间，普通应征入伍者都还在六年级读书。
mortgagee [mortgag (← mortgage) v. 抵押；-ee→] n. a person to whom sth. is mortgaged 承受抵押人，受押人/ Faust mortgaged his soul, the mortgagee was the Devil. 浮士德将自己的灵魂抵押出去，受押人是魔王。
