黄帝曰:善。余闻剌有五变,以主五输,愿闻其数。岐伯曰:人有五藏,五藏有五变,五变有五输,故五五二十五输,以应五时。
Yellow Emperor said: "Good. I am told in pricking, there are five variations which take the five kinds of acupoints as the main points, I hope to hear about the rules." Qibo said:"In human body, there are five solid organs, each of them has the different variations in colour, time, date, tone and taste, each of the variations can be occurred in the five kinds of acupoint of Well, Xing, Shu, Jing and He. In the five solid organs, there are altogether twenty five acupoints which correspond to the five seasons of spring, summer, long summer, autumn and winter."
黄帝曰:愿闻五变。岐伯曰:肝为牡藏,其色青,其时春,其音角,其味酸,其日甲乙[其日甲乙:《甲乙》卷一第二“其日甲乙”在“其时春”下,应据移正]。心为牡藏,其色赤,其时夏,其日丙丁,其音微,其味苦。脾为牝藏,其色黄,其时长夏,其日戊已,其音宫,其昧甘。肺为牝藏,其色白,其音商[其音商,其时秋:按《甲乙》卷一第二“其音商”在“其日庚辛”下,应据移正],其时秋,其日庚辛,其味辛。肾为牝藏,其色黑,其时冬,其日壬癸,其音羽,其味威。是为五变。
Yellow Emperor said: "I hope to hear about the five variations." Qibo said:"The liver is a viscus of Yang, among the five colours, it is green, among the seasons, it is spring, among the decimal cycles of a day, it is Jia and Yi, among the five tones, it is Jue, and among the five tastes, it is sourness. The heart is a viscus of Yang, among the five colours, it is red, among the seasons, it is summer, among the decimal cycles of a day, it is Bing and Ding, among the five tones, it is Zhi, and among the five tastes, it is bitterness. The spleen is a viscus of Yin, among the five colours, it is yellow, among the seasons, it is long summer, among the decimal cycles of a day, it is Wu and Ji, among the five tones, it is Gong, and among the five tastes, it is sweetness. The lung is a viscus of Yin, among the five colours, it is white, among the seasons, it is autumn, in the decimal cycles of a day, it is Geng and Xin, among the five tones, it is Shang, and among the five tastes, it is acridness. The kidney is a viscus of Yin, among the five colours, it is black, among the seasons, it is winter, in the decimal cycles of a day, it is Ren and Gui, among the five tones, it is Yu, and among the five tastes, it is saltiness. These are the five variations which are corresponding to the five solid organs."
黄帝日:以主五俞奈何?岐伯日:藏主冬,冬刺井;色主春,春刺荥;时主夏,夏刺俞;音主长夏,长夏刺经;昧主秋,秋刺合。是谓五变,以主五俞,
Yellow Emperor asked: "What are the conditions of the five kinds of acupoint dominated by the five variations?" Qibo said: "The five solid organs dominate the winter, in winter, one should prick the Jing-points (well) of the various channels; the five colours dominate the spring, in spring, one should prick the Xing-points of the various channels; the five seasons dominate the summer, in summer, one should prick the Shu-points of the various channels; the five tones dominate the long summer, in long summer, one should prick the Jing-points (channel) of the various channels; the five tastes dominate the autumn, in autumn, one should prick the He-points of the various channels. These are the conditions of the five variations dominating the five kinds of acupoint respectively."
黄帝曰:诸原安合,以致六输?岐伯日:原独不应五时,以经[以经:孙鼎宜日:“以经当作“以脏”]合之,以应[以应:孙鼎宜日:“以应当作“不应”]其数,故六六三十六输。
Yellow Emperor asked:"What about the Yuan-point, how should it be allocated to coincide with the number of six kinds of acupoint in the hollow organs?" Qibo said: "The Yuan-points in the hollow organs are not corresponding to the five seasons, they will not fit the number of the six hollow organs when one coordinates it with the five solid organs. In the six hollow organs, there are thirty six acupoints."
黄帝日:何谓藏主冬,时主夏,音主长夏,味主秋,色主春?愿闻其故。岐伯日:病在藏者,取之井;病变于色者,取之荥;病时间时甚者,取之俞;病变于音者,取之经,经满而血者[经满而血者:《甲乙》卷一第二校注:“经”一作“络”。按似应作“病变于音络血而满者,取之经”];病在胃,及以饮食不节得病者,取之于[于:按“于”字衍,应据《甲乙》卷一第二删]合。故命曰味主合。是谓五变[变:周本,日刻本作“病”]也。
Yellow Emperor asked: "What is the meaning of the five solid organs dominate the winter, the five seasons dominate the summer, the five tones dominate the long summer, the five tastes dominate the autumn and the five colours dominate the spring?" Qibo said: "When the disease is in the five solid organs, the Jing-points (well) of various channels should be pricked, when the disease manifested on the complexion, the Xing-points (channel) of various channels should be pricked, when the discase is alleviated and aggravated now and then, the Shu-points of various channels should be pricked, when the disease is manifested in the voice and when the collateral is full with stagnated blood, the Jing-points of various channels should be pricked, to the disease of stomach and the diseases caused by intemperance of food and drink, the He-points of various channels should be pricked, as the disease of stomach is due to foods taken from mouth, so, the He-point dominates the tastes. These are the principles of pricking in the five kinds of diseases stated above."
