任何一种语言都有很多意义非常接近，但用法很不相同的词。汉语是这样，英语同样也是这祥。到了髙级阶段，一个人和另ー个人的外语水平的差异，主要已经不是他们谁的同汇量大，而是谁能更好的把握近义词。
症结概述：近义词滥用现象主要表现在：表示具体意义的词和表示一般意义的词混用，褒义词同贬义词混用，词与大词混用，正式词与非正式词混用等等。
祛除方法：从实质上提髙英语水平，特别是运用英语表达思想的水平。为了在翻泽考试中不丢分，或者少丟分，没有把握时，我们要用较正式的词或说法。

[学生译文] In interpersonal relationship, we do not need too much romanticism.
[参考译文 1] In interpersonal relations, we should not be too romantic.

英语中的relationship和relation译成汉语都是“关系”，因此英译汉时不会遇到什么困难，但是，要把汉语中的“关系”译成英语时，就出现了麻烦，到底是用 relation,还是用 relationship?
一般说来，如果关系是有方向性或单向的，要用relation;如果没有方向性或双向的，则用relationship;如果“关系”有好坏、强弱之分，要用relation;如果“关系”没有好坏、强弱之分，则要用relationship。在英语中有时为了掲示方向性，我们通常说 the relation of one thing to another, the relationship between two things，但是，如果方向性已经理所当然，也用the relation between two things。例如：
“因果之间的关系”的英语是the relation between cause and effect，而不能是 the relationship between two things，因为只有“因”才能引起“果”，而“果"不能引起“因”，系单向关系。“伦理学与经济学的关系” =the relation of ethics to economics； “教育程度与失业的关系” =the relation between education and unempbyment;“改善父子关系” =to improve the relation between father and son。
如果翻译成英语时必须在“关系”之前加修饰语，例如，人际关系，国际关系，外交关系，公共关系，エ业关系，种族关系，夫妻关系，关系不好等等，常用relation。以上几个例子的英语翻译是：interpersonal relations, international relations, diplomatic relation, public relation, industrial relation，race (racial) relation, husband-and-wife relation, poor (bad) relation，不过，两国之间的“友好关系” =the friendly relationship between two countries。请比较：

保持英美之间的传统友好关系=to maintain the traditional friendly relationship between Britain and America[恒定不变的关系];
进ー步改善英美之间的关系 = to further improve the relation between Britain and America[可变的关系]。
