第一，熟悉民事答辩书中经常使用的法律术语的翻译。在答辩书中经常看到辩护律师defense attorney/lawyer,辩护人 defender,辩护证据 exculpatory evidence; defense evidence,补充答辩supplementary answer,反诉counterclaim,律师费attorney fees,诉讼费court costs，等等，这些词的翻译要求准确规范。
第二，同其他诉讼文书类似，民事答辩书中也会经常使用一些惯用语，例如在中文的答辩书中会经常说到：
①“因……一案，现提出答辩意见如下：”可翻译为The following answer is hereby given to the claim of...或 By reason of the dispute based on which...sued..., the defense hereby answers as follows: .….
②“为原告与被告因……纠纷起诉一案，被告现提出答辩如下：”可翻译为With respect to the Complaint in relation to the dispute arising out of... between Plaintiff and Defendant, Defendant hereby responds as follows: ……
③“我们认为：该案与本公司无关，请法院依法撤销原告对我方的诉讼请求”可翻译为 We believe that this case is of no relevance to this company and move that the Plaintiff's claims against this company be dismissed.
④“鉴此，被告请求法院在查明事实的基础上，驳回原告的诉讼请求”可翻译为 Accordingly, Defendant pleads that the Court deny Plaintiff's requests based on its fact finding.
⑤“综上所述，请贵院依法驳回原告的起诉。”可翻译为By reason of the foregoing, we hereby move the court to dismiss the Plaintiff's action according to law.
英美国家民事答辩书中会经常出现这样的话：
① Now comes Defendant ... by and through his or her attorney ..., and answers the Plaintiffs Complaint as follows：可翻译为“兹有被告，……，经由他或她的律师，……，就原告的起诉书作如下答辩：……”。
② Paragraph... of the Plaintiff's Complaint states a legal conclusion to which no response is required.可翻译为“原告起诉书第……段所陈述的法律结论，不要求做出回应”。
③ Defendant has no knowledge or information sufficient to form a belief as to the truth of each and every allegation contained in the paragraph...of the plaintiff's Complaint.可翻译为“被告对原告起诉书第……段所包含的每一项事实和主张，都没有足够的信息使被告确定其的真实性”。
④ In response to the paragraph... of the plaintiff's Complaint, Defendant lacks sufficient knowledge, information, or belief to admit or deny the allegations in this paragraph, and, based on those grounds, Defendant denies generally and specifically each and every allegation of this paragraph.可以翻译为“针对诉状第……段，被告缺乏足够的认知、信息或信念对这一段的主张予以承认或否认，据此，被告全面地、具体地对这一段所有主张予以否认”。
⑤ Wherefore, Defendant prays that the Complaint of the Plaintiff be dismissed in its entirety and that no relief be afforded whatsoever thereunder.可翻译为“由此，被告请求法院驳回原告的所有请求事项，不给予原告任何救济”。
⑥ As a separate affirmative defense to all purported claims for relief, Defendant is informed and believes,and on that basis alleges that...可翻译为“对所有要求的救济请求，被告独立的积极抗辩认为，被告得知并据此主张……”。
⑦ I hereby strongly protest and object to the said Application entered as Case on the following grounds：...可翻译为“本人在此强烈抗议和反对将前述申请立案，理由如下：……”。
⑧In view of the grounds stated above,I respectfully submit that...可翻译为“综上所述，本人认为……”。
