来自拉丁语及法语的名词后缀-ence(-ency)的用法与前面介绍过的-ance(-ancy)基本相同。它们加在动词或动词词根后， 意为 the act or fact of 〜ing 或者 the quality or condition of 〜ing，即表示行为或该行为的性质状态等。这些名词往往有与之对应的-ent以结尾的形容词，在此不予以专门介绍。
现在先介绍几个以-ence结尾的名词。
dependence [depend v. 依靠；-ence →]n. the fact or condition of depending 依靠；依赖/ Everyone knows the dependence of crops on the good weather. 大家都知道农作物对气候的依赖关系。
dependent a. 依靠的；依赖的
difference [differ v. 差异；-ence→] n. the fact or condition of differing 差异，差别 / Can you tell me the difference between these two words?你能说出这两个单词的区别吗？
different a. 差异的;不同的
effluence [ef-(ex-) = out 出；flu =to flow 流;-ence→]n. the act of flowing out; an outward flow, especially of water, light, etc. 流出；（水、光等）流出，射出，发出/The mist is an effluence from the swamp. 雾气是从沼泽地冒出来的。
effluent a. 流出的，发出的
sentience [ sent = to fell 感觉;-i- ; -ence→] n. the quality of or capacity for feeling 感觉；感觉能力 / Some people believe in the sentience of flowers. 有些人相信花朵具有感觉能力。
sentient a. 有感觉的；有感觉能力的
