-ance及其导体-ancy都是拉丁后缀，主要出现在拉丁借词之中。它们一般加缀在动词或动词词根之后，构成抽象名词，表示该行为或其性质、状态等，其意思相当于the act of〜ing (表行为），the quality or state of being〜ed (表行为之性质或状态）。有时，它可表示与该行为有关的主体事物，意思为a thing that ~s或what is〜ed。-ance与-ancy用法与意思相同，只是抽象性更强，多表示行为的性质与状态。
