Liu Yuan Zheng Ji Da Lun
(On the Changes and Symbols of the Five Elements' Motion and the Six Kinds of Weather in the Cycle of Sixty Years)
黄帝问日:六化六变，胜复淫治，甘苦辛咸酸淡先后，余知之矣。夫五运之化，或从五气，或逆天气，或从天气而逆地气，或从地气而逆天气，或相得，或不相得，余未能明其事。欲通天之纪，从地之理，和其运，调其化，使上下合德，无相夺伦，天地升降，不失其宜，五运宜行，勿乖其政，调之正味，从逆奈何?岐伯稽首再拜对日:昭乎哉问也，此天地之纲纪，变化之渊源，非圣帝孰能穷其至理欤!臣虽不敏，请陈其道，令终不灭，久而不易。
Yellow Emperor said: "Now I understand the normal and abnormal conditions about the six energies, the relations between the overcoming energy and the retaliating energy, the treatment for balancing Yin and Yang and the reasons of the early or late generation and transformation caused by the tastes of sweetness, bitterness, acridness, sourness and mildness. But sometimes, the activity of the energy of the five-element is agreeable with the energy that controls the heaven energy, sometimes, it violates it, sometimes it agrees with the energy that affects the earth energy, but goes against the energy that controls the heaven energy; sometimes it agrees with the energy that controls the heaven energy but goes against the energy that affects the earth energy; sometimes they are fit with each other, sometimes they are not, I do not understand the reason. I want to follow the law of the six energies of heaven,obey the rule of the five elements of earth, regulate the energy activity of the five elements' motion, so that the energies up above and down below may not violate each other, the rise and fall of the heaven and earth energies may in their routine patterns, the five elements being unimpeded without deviating from their authorities of office, and to adjust the agreeable or reverse activity of energy with the five tastes. How should I do it?"
Qibo bowed again and again and said: "What an explicit question you have asked! This is the guiding principle of generation and transformation of heaven and earth, and it is the origin of the changes of the six-energy and the five-motion. who can make a thorough inquiry to its quintessence save a wise sage? Although I am not talented, yet I like to illustrate its principle to you, so that it may be last long without changing."
帝曰:愿夫子推而次之，从其类序，分其部主，别其宗司，昭其气数，明其正化，可得闻乎?岐伯曰:先立其年以明其气，金木水火土运行之数，寒暑燥湿风火临御之化，则天道可见，民气可调，阴阳卷舒，近而无感，数之可数者，请遂言之。
Yellow Emperor said:"I hope you can distinguish the host energy, the guest energy, the dominating energy and the subordinate energy in the six kinds of weater according to the categories and sequences, and clarify the symbols and the rules of the activity of the energy of the five-motion for me."
Qibo said: "One must set the decimal cycle and the duodecimal cycle of the year first to ascertain the dominate energy of the year, to know the conditions of the metal, wood, water, fire and earth energies of the five-element motion that dominating the year and the principal and subordinate changes of the six weather of cold, heat, dryness, wetness, fire and wind. In this way, the law of nature can be understood. the energy mechanism of man can be adjusted and the reasons of victory and defeat of Yin and Yang can be known without perplexity. The symbols of the weather and the element's motion can be traced by calculation, and 1 like to try my best to explain it."
帝曰:太阳之政奈何?岐伯曰:辰戌之纪也。
Yellow Emperor asked:"what are the conditions of the five elements' motion and the six kinds of weather when Taiyang is controlling the heaven energy?" Qibo soid: "They are the two years which are marked by the symbols of Chen and Xu of the duodecimal cycle.
太阳 太角 太阴 壬辰 壬戌 其运风，其化鸣紊启坼，其变振拉摧拔，其病眩掉目瞑。
太角（初正）少微 太宫 少商 太羽
"In the Chen year and the Xu year, the cold water of Taiyang controls the heaven energy, and the wetness earth Taiyin affects the earth energy, if the excessive energy of wood motion is encountered, they are the two years of Ren Chen and Ren Xu, The energy of the year's motion dominates the wind, when the domination is normal, the wood will sound gentlely in the blowing of wind. and all things will begin to awake. when the dominatin is abnormal, the gale will shake the grasses and trees, and they will be broken and destroyed. As the wind energy is excessive, people will contract the diseases of dizziness and dim-sighted of eyes. As the year's motion is wood, and Ren is a year of Yang, so, the guest motion starts from the Greater Jue and terminates in the Greater Yu (the sequence is Greater Jue, Lesser Zhi. Greater Gong, Lesser Shang and Greater Yu). The start and the terminal of the host motion are similar with that of the guest motion.
