翻译之道在于理解与表达。不了解英美的律师如何能翻他们？因此，法律翻译工作者必须了解西方的律师——不但在语言上，而且也在社会文化上。请看以下的例示：

末经付费的律师，其意见一文不名。

律师自己决不诉诸于法。

医生要看老的；律师要请少的。（按：与汉语“老医少卜”异趣。因年轻的律师经验少，案件也少；故办案用心也。）

5. Few lawyers die well, few physicians live well.

律师鲜好死，医生寡好活。

对你的牧师、医师和律师，切勿有所隐私。

7. The sharp employ the sharp. Verify, a man may be known by his attorney.

历害的聘请历害的。故以其所聘律师了解其人，可谓丝毫不爽。
