所谓不定数量是指表示若干、许多、大量、不少、成千上万等概念的词组。英语中能够表示这些概念的词组主要有以下几类：
1. 在 number，lot, score, decade, dozen，ten, hundred, thousand, million 等词后加复数后缀-s，这些词组都有约定俗成的汉译。如：
* a hundred and one 许多，无数* a thousand and one 许多，无数
* dozens of 几十，几打 * hundreds of 几百，成百上千
* hundreds of thousands of 数十万* lots of 许多，大量
几十万
* millions of 千千万万，数以百万计* millions upon millions of数亿，无数
* numbers of 许多，若干* scores of几十，许多
* teens of 十几(13 — 19)* tens of thousands of 数万，成千上万
* tens/decades of 数十，几十* thousands of 几千，成千上万
* There are millions of cores used in some large core stores.
在ー些大的中心储存室使用的磁心数以百万计。
* The number of known hydrocarbons runs into tens of thousands.
已知的碳氢化合物多达几万种。
2. 数字前加above, more than, over, up to等，可以译为“超过”、“多达”等。如:
* The temperature in the furnace is not always above 1,000°C.
炉内的温度并不是毎次都超过1,000°c。
