英语中高级口译听力部分除了高级口译笔试有 Note-taking and Gap-filing项目外，其余三项均相同，即Spot Dietation,Listening, Comprehension、Listening and Translation。这三项的不同之处在于内容与难度，应试技巧则基本一致。现在我们以上海市英语高级口译岗位资格证书考试2000年3月考试样题为例进行说明并加以分析。
考生一拿到试卷就应迅速浏览一遍，要重点留意试题文章中的第一段，以便抓住文章的中心。如高级口译笔试听力部分第一个项目Part A: Spot Dictation 中:
For centuries Oxford University has been at Britain's intellectual heart, perhaps the___(1) among Europe's many ancient universities.
由于英语文章的特点是开门见山见主题，于是可知此文主要介绍牛津大学的历史沿革与发展状况。从空格（1）来看，由于该空格前有the，后有among，显然该空格所填的词要用最高级，答案果然为“most prestigious”。有些词不待听完即可凭日常所知的时事知识作出判断，如“.…. and such overseas politicians as American President Bill Clinton and former Pakistani___（6）Benazir Bhutto.”空格（6)前为巴基斯坦，后为布托，显然该空格中应填“总理”，因此考生不管是在听之前还是在听之后都可作个“PM”的记号，正式填写时就可填入Prime Minister。
在中级口译笔试2000年3月听力部分同样的项目中，从第一段最初的两句“Experience is the great teacher. A student needs to be well versed in theory.”就可推测出其主题为课堂理论知识应与课外实践相结合。因此从接下来的一句“In other words, he can learn___(1) from books.”可推测出空格（1)中所填的内容可能是：a great deal, a lot, much 这几个词组。因此，考生一听到空格（1)的内容就可将所听到的词组缩写为a.g.d，正式填写时就可填入a great deal。
以高级口译2000年3月笔试上半场卷听力部分Part B：Listening Comprehension（听力理解）中 Questions 6 to 10为例，标题为“Questions 6 to 10 are based on the following news”。英语新闻的特点就是首先报道最重要的内容，考生能否听懂第一段尤其是第一句尤为关键，当然报道时也有将最重要的内容放在最后一段最后一句的。
因此，若浏览一下第6题“What happened according to the report from Manila?”之后的选项(A)至(D）就可预先选定选项（D）" A helicopter was reported missing.”由于新闻报道经常用“It is reported...”（据报道）的句式，而其他三个选项都没有，所以选项（D)最符合英语新闻的特点。考生要注意听第一句：“MANILA：A helicopter carrying eight people was reported missing after it unloaded a cargo of food and other provisions for workers digging a major funnel for a water supply project for Manila, an official said yesterday.”从最前面的“...was reported missing...”可断定选项（D）为正确答案。
第7题：“What did the Iraqi Ambassador ask the United Nations to do?"
根据英语新闻的特点，考生要注意听第一句：“Iraq asked the United Nations to continue providing humanitarian aid despite cutting off exports of crude oil under the UN's oil-for-food programme, UN officials said.” 从 “to continue providing humanitarian aid”可断定选项(A)为正确答案。
第8题：“What was proposed at the joint meeting staged by the European Union?"
此段一开始似乎让人听不太明白，这时考生应注意听最后一段的最后一句：“...the EU is making concrete efforts to bolster its military clout in Europe.”由此可断定选项(B)为正确答案。
第9题：“What was disclosed in a survey released by the US Defence Department on Tuesday?"
考生要注意听第一句“WASHINGTON: A high percentage of blacks, Hispanics and other minorities in the US military complained in a survey released by the pentagon on Tuesday that they have experienced racially offensive behaviour in the armed services.”要重点听“in the US military complained”与“racially offensive behaviour”,由此可断定选项（D)为正确答案。
第10题:“As compared with the same period last year,how much did Japan's trade surplus drop?"
考生要注意听第一句“TOKYO:Japan's trade surplus plunged 14.4 per cent in October from its level a year ago.”由此可断定选项（C）为正确答案。
