upright [up- = upward 向上; right a. 直的=>“being right upward 笔直向上的”→]a. standing up straight; erect直立的；竖立的/The old man sat upright in a chair, facing the invader's gun. 面对着人侵者的枪口，老人笔直地坐在椅子上。

uptight [ up- = up 起来；tight a. 紧的→“being tight up in mind 精神上紧张起来”→]a. very uneasy; nervous紧张的；不安的/ When she was waiting for the interview, she was really uptight.

在等待求职面试时，她确实非常紧张。

下面介绍up-改变词基单词词性的两个例子。

uproot [ up- =to make. . . upward 使...向上；root n. 根=>“to make the roots upward使树根朝上 ”→]v. tear or pull up by the roots 连根拔 / The storm uprooted many trees.暴风雨将许多树连根拔起。

upstairs [ up- = up 在…上；stairs n. 楼梯 a. & ad. up the stairs在楼上（的）/ The boy ran upstairs . 那男孩跑上楼去。
