两者均指法律的解释方法，其区别在于strict construction主要是指法官在适用法律或其他法律文本时对这些文件严格按照字面或文字的含义，而非按其他渊源之解释，故为“严格解释”[1]，其也称为 strict constructionism (严格解释主义）、literal canon (字面解释准则）、literal rule (字面解释规则）或textualism (文本主义）。而strict interpretation可指对法学著述等的解释说明，其范畴更窄，局限于表明原作者的本意（which governs the ascertainment of the meaning of the maker of instrument)，故为“严格阐释”或“窄义阐释”[2]。
