(1) Crack! The stick broke in two.
(2) They hissed him off the stage,
(3) The clock ticked, the fire cracked.
(4) A bitter storm of sleet, dense and ice-cold, swept the wet streets, and rattled on the trembling windows.
(5) There is no retreat, but in submission and slavery! Our chains are forged! Their clanking may be heard on the plains of Boston!
(1) They splashed through the mire to the village.
(2) There was a large, low-ceiling room, with clacking, rattling machines.
(3) The ship hooted down the river.
(4) Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels and have not charity, I am becoming a sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
(5) On my way to school I can see the babbling water in the brook, hear the frogs creaking, cuckoos cuckooing, sparrows chirping in the woods.
(1) The logs were burning briskly in the fire.
(2) He crashed down on a protesting chair.
(3) The lad rushed in, gasping for breath.
(4) The wind whispered in the pines.
At a time when the war was raging along the Great Wall,a carriage went rumbling swiftly southwards.
