这是发言人在开头讲的一段话，像大多数英语发言一样，语段中有清晰的话语线索（如斜体所标注）。借助这些逻辑线索的指引，我们可以清楚地理解发言人整个发言的结构。在发言人进行主体发言的过程中，我们往往还会听到如下的话语线索：

 

在发言人描述完欧洲的现状后，他/她可能会说：“That's all I have to say about Europe. Let's turn now to Asia.”

在发言人介绍完非洲的进一步发展机会后，他/她可能会说：“Well，we've looked at the three continents: Europe, Asia and Africa. I'd like to sum up now.”

 

根据话语线索的不同功能，我们可以把英语发言中常见的话语线索归类总结如下：

1）Introducing the subject: I'd like to start by... /Let's begin by... /First of all, I'll... /Starting with... /I'll begin by...

2) Finishing one subject: Well，I，ve told you about... /That’s all I have to say about... /We’ve looked at... /So much for...

3) Starting another subject: Now we'll move on to... /Let me turn now to... /Next... /Turning to... /I'd like now to discuss... /Let’s look at...now

4) Analyzing a point: Where does that lead us?... /Let's consider this in more detail... / What does this mean for...?

5) Giving an example: For example，... /A good example of this is... /As an illustration,... /To give you an example，... /To illustrate this point...

6)Sequencing: Firstly...secondly...thirdly...lastly... /First of all...then...next...after that...finally... /To start with...later...to finish up...

7)Summarizing and concluding: In conclusion, ... /OK, let's sum up, ... /I'd like now to recap... /Let's summarize briefly what we've looked at... /Finally, let me remind you of some of the issues we've covered... /If I can just sum up the main points...

 

3)语篇屮的逻铒线索

 

在口译的听辨理解、口译记忆以及笔记的过程中，我们都要紧跟发言人的思路，语篇中的逻辑线索正是发言人思路的标志。逻辑线索有时间、顺序、因果、对比等。

 

逻辑线索的常见标志是逻辑联系词的使用。表示因果关系的逻辑线索词有 “therefore, so, consequently, as a result, due to, owing to，as, since, because” 等。当然，即使是表示同一类逻辑联系的间，在不同的语境中表示的逻辑关系也可能有所不同。以对比关系为例：

 

例 1：The strong mark may not be good for our exports，but it holds down inflation.

本例中发言人使用的是“but”这一表示对比关系的逻辑线索词，表示的 含义是在两者之间做出选择（alternatives)。

例 2： You claim that you have export problems, but our figures reveal a different situation.

本例中发言人同样使用了 “but”这一表示对比关系的逻辑线索词，但表示的含义与例1不同，此处表示两者相互矛盾（contradiction)。

例 3 ： Certain countries apply a strict monetary policy, whereas others feel it more important to stimulate the economy.

本例屮发言人使用的是“whereas”这一表示对比关系的逻辑线索词，表 示的含义是两者的对比（contrast)。

例 4： This is a very serious proposal. However I think that we should...

本例屮发言人使用的是“however”这一表示对比关系的逻辑线索词，表 示的含义是对前者的弱化（attenuation)。
