Ambassador Zhou Pingjian: CPC Plenum Highlights Strength of China's System and Governance

　　2019年11月14日，尼日利亚《人民报》发表驻尼日利亚大使周平剑署名文章，宣介中国共产党第十九届中央委员会第四次全体会议精神。全文如下：

　　“履不必同，期于适足；治不必同，期于利民。”世界上不存在完全相同的政治制度，也不存在适用于一切国家的政治制度模式。一个国家选择什么样的治理体系，是由这个国家的历史传承、文化传统、经济社会发展水平决定的，是由这个国家的人民决定的。鞋子合不合脚，自己穿了才知道。

On November 14, 2019, Nigerian newspaper Peoples Daily published an article written by Ambassador of China to Nigeria Dr. Zhou Pingjian. The full text goes as follows:

A Chinese proverb says, "Shoes don't need to be the same for everyone; they have to fit the foot that wears them. Governments don't need to be the same for everyone; they have to be right for their people."

No two political systems on earth are exactly alike, and no model can fit the political systems of all countries. The kind of governance system best suited for a country is determined by that country's heritage and cultural traditions, and its level of social and economic development, and it is ultimately decided by that country's people.

Only a shoe's wearer knows if it fits.

　　很显然，美国国务卿蓬佩奥不明白这个事理。11月8日其在德国柏林发表演讲，再次攻击中国共产党和中国政治制度。蓬佩奥出于个人政治目的，现在不管走到哪儿，都无端地恶毒攻击中国共产党和中国政府，诬蔑抹黑中国的内外政策，渲染所谓的中国威胁。蓬佩奥妄图否定中国的社会主义制度、挑拨中国共产党和中国人民关系的政治图谋是徒劳的，注定归于失败。

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo doesn't buy it, apparently. On November 8, he launched a new round of attacks on the Communist Party of China (CPC) and China's political system in a speech delivered in Berlin, Germany. Out of personal political calculations, he has been venomously attacking the CPC and the Chinese government, smearing China's domestic and foreign policies, and playing up the so-called "China threat" narrative wherever he goes.

Mr. Pompeo's attempts to negate China's socialist system and sow discord between the CPC and the Chinese people to serve his own political agenda are doomed to fail. 

　　新中国成立70年来，中国共产党领导中国人民实现从站起来、富起来到强起来的历史性飞跃，受到全体中国人民的衷心拥护。中国共产党的领导是中国特色社会主义的最本质特征，是历史和人民的选择。中国人民对自己的道路、理论、制度、文化充满自信，将坚定不移沿着中国特色社会主义道路走下去，不断取得新的成就。任何人都不要幻想动摇我们的信念、阻挡我们前进的步伐。

During the past 70 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the CPC has led the Chinese people in realizing the historic leap from finding our feet to building a prosperous and strong country. It enjoys the wholehearted support of the entire Chinese people. Leadership of the CPC is the defining feature of socialism with Chinese characteristics. It is a historical choice made by the Chinese people who have every confidence in their path, theory, system and culture. China will stay firmly on the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics and strive for new glories. Nobody should dream of shaking our faith and obstructing our progress.

　　过去70年里，中国共产党领导人民创造了世所罕见的经济快速发展奇迹和社会长期稳定奇迹。实践证明，中国特色社会主义制度和国家治理体系是具有强大生命力和巨大优越性的制度和治理体系。

　　中国共产党第十九届中央委员会第四次全体会议再次表明中国共产党将坚守初心使命，不会为任何外部势力干扰所惑。

Highlighting the miracles of rapid economic development and long-term social stability in the past 70 years since the founding of New China, the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and China's system for governance are systems of strong vitality and huge strength as proven by practice.

In a sense, the latest CPC plenum provided fresh proof that the CPC will not allow outside influences to distract it from its mission.
