汉语中“据（……）报道、据说、据悉、据称”以及“一般认为、应该、必须（指出）、已经证明”等无主句，以及一些主语很泛的主动式，如“有人、人们、大家”等一些习惯用语，从汉语的角度看属于主动态，但英译时通常用被动态。对这类句子的翻译，可以充分利用英语中it作形式主语。例如：
1）[原文]据说，一座核电站正在建设中。
[译文] A nuclear power plant is said to be underconstruction.(或翻译或：It is said that a nuclear power plant is under construction. )
2）[原文]人们普遍认为，只要努力，就会成功。
[译文」It is generally thougbt(accepted)that hard work precedes success.
3）[原文]据说（有人说）他病了。
[译 文]It is said that he was il
4）[原文]很明显，这项计划应该取消。
[译 文]It is obvious that the plan should be cancelled.
5）[原文]应该说，情况基本良好。
[译文]It should be said that the situation is basically sound.
6）[原文]可以肯定，这件事是真的。
[译文]It may be confirined that the story is true.
7）[原文]据报道，这次洪灾直接损失这到20多亿。
[译文]It is reported that direct losses caused by the flood disaster exceeded 2 billion.(或翻译成：Direct losses caused by the flood disaster has been reported to exceed 2 billion. )
8）[原文]据说新措施年底出台。
[译文]It is said that new measures will come out at the end of the year.
9）[原文]有人怀疑这个调查结果并不真实。
[译文]The findings of the investigation are suspected.
10）[原文]据预测今年将有400万个城市家庭要购买汽车。
[译文]It is predicted that 4 million urban household will buy cars this year.
11）[原文]有人邀请他参加晚会，他拒绝了。
[译文]When he was invited to take part in the party, he denied.
12）[原文]应该鼓励学生学习第二外语。
[译文]Students should be encouraged to study a second foreign language.
13）[原文]应该考虑他所提出的要求。
[译文]His claim should be considered.
14）[原文]大家认为水污染是这个地区的最大问题。
[译文]It is thought that water pollution remains the major problem in this area.
常见的无主句英译的类似结构还有：据悉……（It is learned that…)、据说……（It is said that…)、据称……（It is claimed/stated that…)、据查……(It is investigated that…)、据记载……（It is recorded(written)that…）、据预测……（It is predicted that…)、据估计……（It is estimated that…)、据报道……（It is reported that…）、一般认为……（It is generally believed/thought that…)、众所周知……(It is well known that…)、可以看出……(It can be seen that…)、由此可见……（It therefore can be seen that…）、可以说/应该说…… (It should be said that…)、必须指出……（It must be pointed out that…)、已经证明……(It has been proved that…)、人们认为……(It is thought that…)、人们希望……(It is expected (hoped)that…)、人们注意到……(It is noticed that…)、有人
建议……(It is suggested that…)、有人发现……(It is found that…)、有人指出……(It is noted that…)、有人提出……(It is proposed that…),等等。
