英语中的平行结构就是要求把意义同等重要，或相匹配的概念用相同的语法形式来表达。平行结构可以出现在各个语言单位层面。
1. 词汇的平行排列
① March winds and April showers bring forth May flowers.
三月的风，四月的雨，带来五月的鲜花。
② She was both their friend and teacher.
她既是他们的朋友，又是他们的教师。
2. 词组和短语的平行排列
③ A man is judged not only by what he says but also by what he does.
我们评价一个人不仅要看他的言辞，而且要看他的行为。
④ Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.
早睡早起使人富有、健康又智慧。
⑤ It is the same old story of not being grateful for what we have until we lose it, of not being conscious of health until we are ill.
还是那句老话，不失不知贵，不病不知保健康。
3. 从句的平行排列
⑥ If a policy is not hurting, it isn't working.
如果ー项政策不触犯ー些人，就不能说有效。
⑦ He is totally consistent in what he says and how he does it.
他真正做到了言行一致。
⑧ Without guilt he enjoys his own accomplishments. Without envy he enjoys the accomplishments of others.
他赏悦自己的成绩，而不感到内疚，他为别人的成绩而感到髙兴，而不忌妒。
4. 句子的平行排列
⑨ We shall fight him by land, we shall fight him by sea, we shall fight him in the air.
