译文中的chromosome pairing为单数形式，而其谓语动词were为复数形式。此外，例中译文主句的主语太长，再加上宾语从句，有表达迂回之嫌。
改译：Through the morphological observation of plants and the cytological examination of pollen mother cells at meiosis, only 2 true hybrid lines, whose chromosome number is 2n = 4x = 36 and whose chromosome pairing at the metaphase I of meiosis is irregular, were found.
(二）复数主语用单形谓语
例如： A bond length of 2, 535 A and a bond angle of 104. 3°was reported. [研究表明，键长为2.535人,键角为104. 3']
译文句中有两个主语，谓语应该用复数，但却用了单数形式。改译时将其变成复形谓语即可。
改译：A bond length of 2.535 A and a bond angle of 104.3" were reported.
例如：This is one of the monographs on molecular biology that has been published by the publishing house.[这是该出版社已
出版的分子生物学专著之一。]
改译：This is one of the monographs on molecular biology that have been published by the puhlishing house.
三、主从复合句时态不一致
一般地，英语的复合句中，从句谓语动词的时态须与主句的谓语动词时态保持一致，特别是主语从句与宾语从句更是如此。翻译时应加以注意，否则就会发生时态不一致的错误。
(一）主语与宾语从句时态不一致
例如：We presume that a cyclase gene from S. cattleya was cloned according to the function of the gene products. [根据基因功能，我们断定已克隆得到S. cattleya肽环化酶基因。]
译文的主句谓语动同为现在时，而宾语从句谓语动词却为过去时。除个别情况外，这是英语语法所不允许的。主句与宾语从句的时态视具体情况既可统一在现在时，也可统一在过去时。
(二）主语与定语从句时态不一致
主语对定语从句时态一致性的要求不像对宾语从句时态一致性要求那样强烈，应视具体情况而定。一般来说，在主句和定语从句叙述同一时间发生的事物时，在时态上应保持一致。
下面的示例中，主、从句时态不一致就是错误的。
例如：Last week we paid a visit to the National Museum of Nature, in which we have seen a lot of rare animal specimens.
[上周我们参观了国家自然博物馆，看到了许多珍稀动物标本。]
原译文的主句和定语从句均叙述过去发生的事情，故均应采用一般过去时。
改译：Last week we paid a visit to the National Museum of Nature, in which we saw a lot of rare animal specimens.
